I think the annulment of the Spire made a lot of things easier for both of them.

( and, you know, harder; a mage who had not left so much as fled and la limier, whose explicit purpose was to hunt him down.

but it wasn't as if they'd anything, exactly, to go back to. everything changed and the only way forward with it.
)

She couldn't have just stayed. Anyway.

( that has become clear. )

( she starts to answer; considers, reconsiders.

finally,
)

I think it felt longer than it was, likely. We disagreed a lot.

( putting it mildly. )

Tranquility was the big one.

Everything in front of us, really. I don't think we've ever had a conversation we couldn't turn into a fight. She'd probably have disapproved of my sneaking out to meet elven spies, too, in Orlais.

( so that's what she was up to. )

( a little shrug. )

I made some new friends. Useful friends, we may hope. Briala's network is extensive across Orlais.

Have you made many?

( friends.

it seems like an honest question, delivered frank enough to be rude but without any evident intention to cut; she looks up at him, her gaze studying, as if she's seeing him in a different light for a moment. it is good that he isn't

declining

the way that coupe is. but who would have grieved him, if he did?

( well, that feels like telling on himself, a bit, as a reaction. she glances at him, a little surprised—

then a little less.
)

It wasn't where my mind had gone, ( she says, after a moment. ) I don't know who you're close to. I wondered.
